The Library has recently acquired the Raymond Germann Photograph Collection, a great addition to our collection of documentary photography of contemporary New York City. With over 300 images of NYC from 1978 to 2015, the collection captures views of the ever-evolving cityscape and examines the intersection of architecture and street life.
Below is a selection of Germann’s photos that highlight the geometry of the built environment. The focus on lines, curves, shadows, and repeating patterns provides a different perspective on familiar places, allowing us to see the city in a new way.
